Learn how to plan and sew a ¼” (6mm) bias binding with an edgestitch. Use this technique on necklines, armholes, or to clean finish a hem.

Step | Description |
---|---|
1A | For this lesson, we have prepared two pieces of #2 muslin. One piece measuring 10” (25.4cm) in the width grain by 5” (12.7cm) in the length grain. This represents the body piece. |
1B | The second muslin piece will be a bias strip measuring 1 ¼” (3.2cm) wide by 12” (30.5cm) long. This is your binding. |
2A | Place the bias strip on your ironing board. Measure and turn up a ¼” (6mm) seam allowance along the length edge of the strip, using your clear plastic ruler. You could also mark the ¼” (0.6cm) seam allowance with your pencil. |
