Rendering Sheer Pattern
Learn how to hand render a sheer pattern, using a combination of pencils and markers. Once you have downloaded the fashion croquis and reference swatch, supplied with this lesson, print the fashion croquis to use as your canvas. We will teach you various techniques when rendering a beautiful sheer dress with a gold arabesque pattern. You’ll learn how to map the pattern, render the foundation and then what tools to use to create transparency. The result is a stunningly sheer cocktail dress to add to your fashion portfolio.

MODULE 1 • MAPPING PATTERN
Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | Start this lesson, by downloading the fashion croquis and the reference swatch supplied with the lesson. Print the fashion croquis to use as your canvas. |
2 | Tilt the croquis figure on the table to find the best position for you to draw. Keep your sheer swatch close by for reference. |
3 | Using your pencil and referring to your swatch, map the overall arabesque pattern onto the dress. Start on the top right-side of the dress and map the pattern using swirling lines that mimic the arabesque pattern of the swatch. Map a small portion of the pattern on the left-side front. |
