Pattern Layout on Solid Fabrics
This is an introductory lesson and part of our pattern layout series. Here we are using a solid cotton fabric and a straight skirt pattern with a waistband. You will learn how to place and then cut your skirt and learn the importance of fabric grain, which is critical to the fit of a garment.

Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | For this lesson, I’m using a solid fabric that is 60” (152.4cm) wide. |
2 | The first thing that I do, is identify the right side of my fabric, which I place on the inside. |
3 | Then, on the wrong side of the fabric, I place an X near the selvage. |
