In this lesson, we will teach you how to draw a Mandarin Collar, also known as a Chinese or Nehru collar. You will learn how to map your fashion pose and then to draw and illustrate this collar on the neckline of a blouse. We will teach you how to shade the blouse and how to add topstitching, so that you can add this illustration to your portfolio. Add to your library of collars, by learning how to draw and illustrate the sailor collar, the Peter Pan and the notched collar.

MODULE 1 • Mapping the Pose & Mandarin Collar

Step Description
1 We will begin this lesson by mapping the gesture of the fashion pose, beginning with the plum line, then the neck, the clavicle and the shoulder line.
2A We will position our Mandarin or Chinese collar at approximately 1 ¼” up from the shoulder at the neck. Draw the top of collar around the neck with a curve at the end. Add the collar stand and the neckline seam.
2B Repeat these steps to draw the left-side of the collar.
