Drafting a Square Neckline for Knits

This lesson will teach you how to draft a knit top with a square neckline. Referring to the illustration provided, you will learn how to determine the front neck drop measurement, the width of the square neck, the distance from the shoulder/neckline intersection, and the center back neck drop before you begin the draft.

MODULE 1 • Square Neck Draft

Step	Description
1	We begin the draft by referring to our square neck sketch to determine certain key measurements. Our front neck drop is 4 ½” (11.4cm), the square neckline area from center front is 2 ¾” (7cm), the distance from the front and back shoulder/neckline intersection is ¾” (2cm) and the back neck drop is also ¾” (2cm).
2A	Place a mark at 4 ½” (11.4cm) from the center front/neckline intersection and labeled it as ‘A’. Square off at A for 2 ¾” (7cm) and label it ‘B’. From the front shoulder/neckline intersection, come out ¾” (2cm) and label that ‘C’. Now connect C to B to complete the front square neckline.
