Drafting a Knit Camisole

Drafting a Knit Camisole

Drafting a Knit Camisole

This lesson will teach you how to draft a knit camisole with four finishing variations: A double layer camisole with self-fabric and/or adjustable straps, a camisole with a bra shelf liner, a camisole with a binding finish and a camisole with a fold over finish. You will also learn about certain elastics that help stabilize your camisole while sewing.

The sleeveless knit T-shirt sloper needed for this lesson can be found and drafted in our lesson, Drafting a Women’s Fitted Stable Knit T-shirt from Measurements. And the fabric planned for this draft is a cotton/Lycra single knit jersey.

MODULE 1 • Double Layer Camisole with Adjustable or Self Fabric Straps

Step Description
1 In this lesson, we will demonstrate four different camisole variations and finishing techniques: a double layer camisole with self-fabric and/or adjustable straps, a camisole with a shelf bra liner, a camisole with a binding finish and a camisole with a fold over finish.
2 For the self-fabric and/or adjustable strap camisole, begin by tracing front sleeveless T-shirt sloper that you drafted in our lesson: Drafting a Women’s Fitted Stable Knit T-shirt from Measurements. Measure down 5” (12.7cm) from the neckline/center front intersection, place a mark and label it as point ‘A’. Then, measure 3” in from the front neckline/shoulder intersection and label that ‘B’.
3 Next, we will plan the camisole’s ½” (1.3cm) wide self-fabric front strap by measuring down 4” (10.2cm) from point B and drawing a line that is parallel to center front. Label this as point ‘C’. Record the measurement of the front strap from B to C. Ours measures 4” (10.2cm). Square-off at point C for ¼” (6mm) on each side of the strap line to the shoulder seam.
