Center Front Waist Dart – Scoop Neckline
In this lesson you will learn how to design a center front waist dart bodice with a scoop neckline. Building on our Basic Bodice lesson, you will learn how to manipulate your muslin to create a bodice with a single front dart instead of 2 darts. You will be able to design your own back and then have fun transforming it into a dress, a top or other style that you can imagine.

Step | Description |
---|---|
1A | To begin this lesson, style tape the scoop neckline. For a size 6, we positioned the tape 3” (7.6cm) away from the neck on the shoulder and 4” (10.2cm) down from the neck at center front, on both sides of the form. |
1B | Styletape the bustline from left apex to right apex to the side seam. |
2 | For a size 6 dress form, you will need to prepare a muslin block that measures 14” (35.6cm) wide in the width grain x 21” (53.3cm) long in the length grain of the muslin. You should always remove the selvage of the muslin first. Snip and tear your front muslin so that your block will be on grain. |
