Darlene Donohue
Darlene Donohue taught herself to sew while in high school. She later studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City in the AAS and Certificate Programs. She has worked for Anna Sui and Isaac Mizrahi before opening her own custom eveningwear business while raising her two children. Darlene has also created embellished costumes with embroidery and beading for competitive ballroom dancers, which is when her love for hand-work began.
Darlene moved to Hilton Head Island where she worked for Saks Fifth Avenue and became accomplished in hand appliqué quilting. Her quilts are exhibited at National, American and International Quilt Festivals, where they continue to win awards and notoriety for their extraordinary hand stitching. Her work has also been published in numerous magazines, calendars and books.
Upon hearing of her talent for hand sewing, Parsons School of Design recruited her to teach “Couture Design Techniques,” which she continues to do today.
