What is Draping?
Draping is the art of manipulating fabric directly on the dress form in three dimensions. It is the most creative way for a designer to turn design ideas into reality. You will learn the art of draping from the experts. Click on any lesson picture, below, to learn more about that lesson. Note: You'll learn the most from our lessons by doing exactly what the teacher is doing using your own tools and supplies.Beginner
Recommended Lesson Order
If you’re new to draping, start with our “Intro to Dress Forms”, then move to “Draping Basics: Muslin Blocking Marking Pressing”. After those, do our “Bodice Sloper”, then our “Straight Skirt Sloper” lessons, followed by our “Bustier Bodice” and “Princess Bodice” lessons. Next, follow along with our “Sheath Dress” and “A-Line Dress” lessons. Finish up by mastering our “Flared Skirt Straight Grain Center”, “Yoke Dirndl Skirt” and “Fitted Torso Sloper” lessons, in that order. Once you get to, and complete, our “Fitted Torso Sloper” lesson in this section, you’ll be ready for our Intermediate and Advanced draping lessons.
