Three new dart manipulation videos to be thankful for

- - Draping

In honor of Thanksgiving right around the corner, we are giving thanks for our designers, students, followers and business partners who are contributing to the preservation of the art and craft of fashion design. You may have noticed our website is going through a bit of a face lift as we have added both CAD and Knit sections. We continue to add new videos in all of the U of F disciplines, and this week is no different.

We have added to our dart manipulation series with three new featured draping videos: Center Front Apex Dart Bodice, Armhole Dart Bodice and Center Front Neck Dart Bodice. Take a look at the images in the header of this blog. Notice the dart peeking out from Rihanna’s collar or the center front apex dart in the third image above. Dart manipulation is a subtle design detail that can be the mark of a masterful designer if done successfully – and we are here to give you a step-by-step guide so that you add these techniques to your design repertoire.

As an added bonus, we have varied the necklines in these draping videos as a way for you to learn how to drape a V neckline, boat neckline and jewel neckline. The beauty of these videos is that once you have mastered the dart manipulation techniques in addition to the draping of various necklines, you have unlimited options of techniques that you can mix and match to create dresses, shirts, jackets – even jumpsuits.

Learn from FIT instructor, Barbara Seggio, as she teaches you various ways to work the extra fabric created by the bust through dart manipulation. And from the U of F family to yours, we wish you a Thanksgiving full of friends, family and fashion! We are so very thankful for YOU.
