Kathryn Butler: Sewing Winner

Kathryn is currently a fashion design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.  She has always had a love of fashion and was self-taught in design and garment construction before attending FIT.  Kathryn says that although starting school for fashion design has been a challenge as she is learning the “right” way to do things, she loves the push and is successfully wrapping up her first semester of school.

How does Kathryn use the University of Fashion’s video library?  Kathryn tells us that the U of F’s tutorials have been a great help to her along the way.  She finds U of F videos useful when she needs to review something learned in class, or just needs greater clarification on how to execute a particular skill.  Kathryn also mentioned that design school has pushed her to explore her creativity on a new level and the University of Fashion’s tutorials help her to complete garments that are more complicated than anything she has done in the past. Kathryn, we are so proud of you!

We selected Kathryn as our sewing winner for her attention to detail (Look how beautifully that invisible zipper is lined up!) and her use of hem tape for a clean finish.  We also appreciated seeing the final product in houndstooth.  Kathryn referenced both our Invisible Zipper and Hem Tape Finish videos below to create this stunning result.  Congrats, Kathryn, we hope you use your $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com to celebrate a successful first semester at FIT!
