Learn the Basics and the Sky’s the Limit

- - Draping

The more techniques you have in your back pocket as a designer, the better. Though this week, you may be overflowing with inspiration and have “designs to do” on your list, taking a moment to learn a new technique will enhance your existing designs and inspire you to take your design aesthetic further in the future. Oh, and it never hurts to take a look at a Viktor & Rolf couture collection to further inspire…

We are excited to introduce our newest video, Bust Ruching Bodice with Sweetheart Neckline in which you will learn how to drape a bodice and create ruching at the bust. A detail that adds interest and can be very flattering, ruching provides an additional way to work with the excess fabric at the bust. As you are adding to your skill list, be sure to take in our other videos that give you options for manipulating the traditionally placed bust dart including Center Front Waist Dart Bodice with Scoop Neckline.

Though our video will teach you the ruching basics (a step you should not skip), take a look at how what you will learn can then be translated as you become more confident with the ruching technique. Victor and Rolf’s Spring 2015 is a master class in a variety of techniques from ruching, gathering and ruffles and to florals and fabric manipulation. The University of Fashion has you covered on each of these basic skills, so that one day you can apply them to your designer heart’s content.

Finally, for those of you who enjoy repurposing vintage, the ruching technique you will learn in out newest video can provide a creative solution to fit issues you may be trying to resolve. Take a look and then come up with your own applications for this useful technique. We look forward to hearing about where you take it from here!
