First, take a look at our Knit Poncho Scarf video for basics on knit stitches and of course, how to create an essential accessory for both fall and winter. Once you have mastered these techniques, you are well on your way to knitting your very own chunky sweater for yourself. You may find the process so easy, you decide that the special someones on your holiday gift list this year will be receiving hand knitted treats from you. Now is the time to get started and really impress come the holidays.

As you are taking the time to learn how to hand knit, consider how knits add variety, interest, depth and texture to a collection. Imagine unconventional uses for knits and chunky knits paired with delicate fabrics, such as a gorgeous ivory cable knit sweater paired with a silk slip dress of the same tone. As always, the more “tricks you have up your sleeve” as a well-rounded designer, the more likely you are to be able to communicate effectively with factories and ultimately your clients.

As inspiration, take a look at the following emerging knitwear designers.
