Celebrating FIT and Parsons 2014 Graduates
From color and quirk to neutrals and knits, this year’s graduate runways have it all. As an educational resource for the Fashion Institute of Technology as well as Parsons The New School for Design, we can’t help but feature their graduates’ work and feel proud that the University of Fashion offers an online video library to assist these talented graduates in reaching their goals.
The Future of Fashion 2014 Graduates Collection recently featured FIT’s brightest and best designers in sportswear, special occasion, knitwear, intimate apparel, and children’s wear. Exquisite knits dominated FIT’s runway this season. Intricately designed knits were paired with the bulkier variety to create entire looks demonstrating thoughtful contrast, as well as use of texture and color placement. Su Jung Lee’s gorgeous oversized turtleneck jacket sweater draped beautifully atop her high-waisted knitted pencil skirt, showing the range of her talent and vision. Woven garments showed expert command of tailoring and fit while the use of color blocking with wool alongside metallic fabrics proved effective for designer Sarah Conlon. Jang describes her collection as consisting “of both conceptual and wearable pieces, balancing accessibility and creativity” and she credits her mother for teaching her the “importance of balancing the conceptual and the practical.” Featured below are images from Tuyen Tran’s collection, Assemble. Tran refers to her garments as “a collection of practical components for the different roles we play in life as we strive to achieve a balance between protection and expression, and a harmony between being part of a greater assembly and being ourselves.”
We wish all 2014 graduates the very best in their fashion futures and look forward to watching as careers take flight. Remember, the University of Fashion is here for you when you need a refresher course!Photos courtesy of wwd.com and Style.com
