2014: A Year of Twists, Details, Knits, New Beginnings and Looking Back

For the University of Fashion, 2014 has been the year of new video series. For University of Fashion students, this means in depth learning in each of our disciplines. This year, we have taken our students beyond basic skills and offered lessons to stretch, inspire and encourage you to take the next step in your fashion design career. Below, find a few of 2014 series highlights, including a just-added draping video.

In our Draping discipline, 2014 was all about the twist. We added instructional draping videos including Center Front Twist, Asymmetric Twist and our most recent addition, Skirt Front Twist. Each of these videos offer techniques that can be translated into your unique designs and build upon the knowledge you learned in our beginner draping videos.

2014 was a big year for our Fashion Art discipline. Not only did we add five new collar illustration videos, but we also added numerous videos on drawing design details such as Accordion Pleats and Smocking. Our newly added three part series on Finding Your Sketching Voice is a valuable tool for developing an individual illustration style that reflects your design aesthetic and brand.

We dedicated many of our new Pattern Making videos to converting basic slopers to slopers designed to work with various knit fabrics. Our goal is to make sure that you have the skills to design and create a perfect fit – no matter what fabric you decide to use and therefore, 2014 was the “year of the knit” at U of F. We also added two “must watch” introductory videos which teach knit fabric fundamentals.

Our Product Development discipline saw one of the U of F’s most anticipated series added – three videos packed with essential knowledge when starting your own fashion line and brand. From designing and costing to producing and promoting, the U of F has you covered.

Finally, as we look forward to a long list of new and exciting instructional videos in 2015, we cannot help but look back. This year, our Fashion Business Connections discipline featured a two part series entitled 100 Years of Fashion Rebels & Revolutionaries. Inspired by the past and looking to our students to define the future of fashion, we look forward to a bright 2015.
